Our mission is to enhance and enrich the quality of life for all persons served by the State of Louisiana by mobilizing people and resources in our community. We strive to achieve this goal by connecting people and opportunities for effective volunteer community service. We are the only local volunteer center that provides services to people of all ages and from all populations.
Established in 1991, The Extra Mile began as the official volunteer recruitment organization for the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals. The Extra Mile served as a catalyst between community and state agencies to meet the special needs of persons affected by mental illness, developmental disabilities or substance abuse. To this day, we provide public education, fund raising and client care through volunteerism to those state agencies.
Within the last few years, The Extra Mile has grown beyond its original mission. As a Points of Light Foundation-designated Volunteer Center and through the work of Volunteer Caddo-Bossier! (adult volunteers) and The Youth Volunteer Corps (youth volunteers), and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Caddo Bossier, The Extra Mile has been developing volunteer resources to enhance all area non-profit agencies and other organizations that work to improve our community. Our efforts are centered on matching volunteers with various agencies, coordinating days of service, and promoting volunteerism among individuals, groups, and businesses.
