LAVCD
The Louisiana Association of Volunteer Center Directors (LAVCD) focuses on the strengths our volunteer and civic action centers have to engage citizens in meaningful service opportunities. The LAVCD has been an informal networking association of Louisiana’s volunteer and civic action centers for over 10 years and in 2005 affirmed a new commitment to work together in addressing the state’s social issues through volunteerism.
The LAVCD meets quarterly to share issues and identify areas for partnership and impact. In past years, it has successfully applied for and implemented grants for strengthening the association and for expanding an online presence through volunteerlouisiana.gov, a portal where volunteers can search and sign up for service opportunities and where organizations can post their volunteer needs.
The LAVCD foresees a future where the people of Louisiana are inspired to serve and are actively engaged in improving the quality of life with their fellow citizens. Most recently its members, the Executive Directors of each HandsOn affiliate, adopted a strategic plan to build increased capacity for services within each organization while identifying areas across the state where new civic action centers could be nurtured, launched and mentored. The goal of the strategic plan is to create and sustain high quality programs that meet the needs of Louisiana’s citizens and promote an ethic of service. This breadth and depth strategy will ensure that citizens across the state will have a way to make a positive social impact in their communities through meaningful service opportunities.
