Help in Disaster
Response & Recovery Efforts
In a disaster, the Louisiana Serve Commission, in partnership with the state's Volunteer Centers and HandsOn affiliates, serves to provide information about volunteer needs. A disaster banner will be put up on the homepage of www.volunteerlouisiana.gov identifying ways that citizens can help and items that can be donated.
The Louisiana Serve Commission and the state's Volunteer Centers and HandsOn affiliates are members of the Louisiana Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (LAVOAD). LAVOAD and regional VOADs help connect and coordinate nonprofit and faith-based resources to state and parish response efforts, and help locate resources for nonprofit and faith-based organizations responding to citizen and community needs.
At this time, there are no active response efforts, but recovery efforts from recent hurricanes and the Gulf Oil spill continue along the Gulf Coast, particularly Orleans, Lafourche, Terrebonne, Vermillion, Cameron and Calcasieu parishes. If you would like to learn about volunteer opportunities or ways to donate to these efforts, go to the homepage of www.volunteerlouisiana.gov and use the Search Box to find opportunities. You may also want to contact the Volunteer Center or HandsOn affiliate in a particular parish, and can find that information by clicking on the state map at the bottom of the homepage or clicking here.
