Learning to Serve, Serving to Learn

Parishes Served: Vernon

Evans School students will be involved in a year long school beautification project. In addition to grounds beautification, students will learn about recycling, environmental and forestry awareness, Arbor Day and Earth Day. Junior high students will teach lessons to elementary students in conjunction with Arbor Day and Earth Day. Projects and activities will also be planned for Global Youth Service Day. Art projects, beautification projects, and outdoor planting will focus on environmental issues and forestry awareness. High school vocational agriculture students will build projects to enhance our school campus and community. A reading/outdoor classroom will be created for elementary students to use throughout the year. Students in junior high will hold a Service Learning Fair focusing on forestry and environmental issues in conjunction with our celebration in May. Students in elementary will rotate through stations to learn about these issues. Students' classroom learning will be enhanced through these hands on activities and state standards will be reinforced. Parents and grant partners will assist students with outdoor planting, provide meals for project days, and reinforce environmental awareness at home. At the end of the year, junior high students will design and publish a brochure detailing their projects.
