Lt. Governor Announces $1.82 million in AmeriCorps funding
Baton Rouge, La. - Lt. Governor Mitch Landrieu and the Louisiana Serve Commission announced today that three organizations in Louisiana will receive $1.82 million in AmeriCorps grants from the Corporation for National and Community Service. The grants will support a total of 144 AmeriCorps members who will meet vital needs across the state.
"Each of these organizations is working every day to make Louisiana a better place to live," said Lt. Governor Mitch Landrieu, who oversees the Louisiana Serve Commission, which administers AmeriCorps funding in the state. "These grants are an important investment in our citizens-their service, their innovations, and their will to make a difference."
The selected organizations include City Year Louisiana, Louisiana Delta Service Corps and the St. Bernard Project. These organizations were selected in a highly competitive national process. The $1.82 million in AmeriCorps funding is in addition to the recently-awarded $1.35 million in AmeriCorps stimulus funding awarded in mid-May by the Louisiana Serve Commission.
Next month, the Louisiana Serve Commission plans to announce additional AmeriCorps grants from its state formula funds to other organizations in Louisiana.
